Creating a Bitmap Copy (55 seconds)

This movie shows how to create a bitmap copy of selected objects. In the movie only the red circle is selected and not the yellow and blue rectangles. First the "Transparent" option in the Create Bitmap Copy dialog box is unchecked. The bitmap shows a square blue background. A copy of the bitmap appears in the center of the window. This copy is dragged to the side so that you can see the second bitmap when it's created. Then the operation is repeated with "Transparent" checked. This time the bitmap shows only areas covered by the selected object (the red circle) and the background is transparent. You can see this when the bitmap is moved over the blue area of the right. Notice that on the white background the dark edge of the red circle is noticeable. This is the bitmap anti-aliasing to blue background. When the bitmap is moved over the blue area, the dark edge blends into the background. Creating the bitmap against a suitable background color is a useful technique to improve quality.

Changing Bitmap Palettes (17 seconds)

You can achieve interesting results by changing a bitmap from full color to two color (a contone). This movie shows creating an old-fashioned sepia looking photograph. First we drag-and-drop White from the Color Gallery onto the bitmap. Note the white square to the right of the mouse pointer when over the bitmap. This converts the bitmap into black-and-white. Then we drag a sepia color onto the edge of the bitmap. Note the vertical bar to the right of the mouse pointer when it is over the edge of the bitmap.

Inserting a Bitmap into a Document (16 seconds)

This movie shows inserting a bitmap from the Bitmap gallery into a document. You can insert any bitmap that's in the Bitmap Gallery, even those from other documents. The bitmap we've used is one of the background fills included in the Webster Clipart.

Making Bitmaps Lighter and Darker (33 Seconds)

This movie shows how you can use transparency to make an object lighter. (The movie shows a bitmap but you can make anything lighter in the same way.) The second part of the movie shows making the bitmap darker by:

cloning it (creating a copy exactly on top of the original)
making the clone black
applying transparency to the clone so you can see part of the original bitmap through the clone.
