Xara Xtreme - using NavBars with FontPage

This page describes how to use Microsoft FrontPage to add a Xara Xtreme NavBar into an existing web page. Click here for other ways of including NavBars.

The exact method depends on whether your NavBar uses the Selected button state. (NavBars with the Selected state are more complicated.)

NavBars without the Selected state - Show me

  1. In Xara Xtreme create the NavBar and save it to disk. This creates a series of GIF or JPEG files for the buttons and an HTML (web) page.
  2. In the FrontPage Explorer window use Import on the File menu to add the web page and GIFs/JPEGs to your FrontPage Web.

The following steps all use the FrontPage Editor.

  3. In the FrontPage Editor open the Xara Xtreme-created web page. You see the NavBar displayed.
  4. Use Select All on the Edit menu to select everything on the page. (Important: you need to select everything - see note.)
  5. Use Copy on the Edit menu to copy the NavBar.
  6. Use Paste on the Edit menu to paste the NavBar into your existing web page.

If you want to use the same NavBar on other pages, you only need to repeat step 6.

NavBars with the Selected state - Show me

  1. In Xara Xtreme create the NavBar and save it to disk. This creates a series of GIF or JPEG files for the buttons and one HTML (web) page for each button. Each page has a different button shown in the selected state.
  2. In the FrontPage Explorer window use Import on the File menu to add the web pages and GIFs/JPEGs to your FrontPage Web.

The following steps all use the FrontPage Editor.

  3. In the FrontPage Editor open the appropriate Xara Xtreme-created web page. You see the NavBar displayed with one button in the selected state.
  4. Use Select All on the Edit menu to select everything on the page. (Important: you need to select everything - see note.)
  5. Use Copy on the Edit menu to copy the NavBar.
  6. Use Paste on the Edit menu to paste the NavBar into the appropriate existing web page.
  7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for the other pages.

Note:
Displaying the Mouse Over or Selected button states requires a block of HTML code to display the button graphics and a block of JavaScript to control switching between the button states. Copying everything on the Xara Xtreme-created web page copies both these blocks.
If, when you run your web page, you get a Runtime error message, this means the JavaScript block is missing. Make sure you select everything on the Xara Xtreme page.
